Minimal Waste
Waste is a major problem in the 20th century, and using wood pellets to fuel your home or business can help alleviate the problem to a large extent. In a traditional home heated by electricity or gas the costs of transmitting the electricity or piping the gas to your home can cost a tremendous amount, and when the costs of maintenance are factored in it seems very inefficient indeed. Wood pellets are an incredibly efficient form of fuel, the net result of using it is that waste drops.
Let us examine exactly how wood pellets reduce waste. The first and most obvious point to consider is that they are produced from waste products themselves; in this case sawdust left over from milling, joinery, carpentry and various other activities. In normal circumstances the majority of this sawdust would end up in landfill taking up a tremendous amount of space. This is inefficient and harmful to the environment, although only a small amount of every tree that is felled ends up as sawdust that is wasted the end result is huge; with deforestation and the destruction of the natural environment being such a problem in modern times it is vital that we utilise all parts of the tree including the waste, offcuts and sawdust left over after it has been milled or crafted.
Although wood pellets are made from sawdust many would ask why we cannot simply collect the sawdust and burn it directly. This is also very inefficient because of the large amount of air and moisture contained in the wood; the advantage of wood pellets is that they are packed incredibly tightly with almost no moisture present in the finished product ensuring that almost everything in wood pellets is material that can be burnt to release energy. Wood pellets will burn a tremendously long time and provide a lot more heat than simply burning sawdust or wood.
Another facet of wood pellets is that since many sawmills and joineries now utilise sustainable, environmentally friendly and ecologically sound wood sourced from forests that are replanted as they are felled the wood that makes up the pellets is from a sustainable source that does not contribute to deforestation and the destruction of natural habitats. Wood pellets are also very easy to handle ensuring that very little of it is wasted transporting it to your door and storing it for use when the weather turns cold. In an industrial setting the small, even size of wood pellets ensures that furnaces, fires and stoves can be kept easily at a constant temperature.
